The nomination list for the 65th Annual Grammy Awards for the year 2026 has dropped in, and it's a strong moment for genre‑spanning artists. The Recording Academy announced on 7th November, 2025, that the ceremony will be held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday, 1st February, 2026. Leading the pack is Kendrick Lamar with nine nominations, while Lady Gaga, Bad Bunny and Sabrina Carpenter also have major showings.

With new categories introduced, this year's list reflects the evolving sound of popular music.

Power Nominations and First Time Highlights

Kendrick Lamar leads the nominations with nine nods, putting him ahead of Lady Gaga, producer‑songwriters like Jack Antonoff and Cirkut (each with seven), and Bad Bunny, Sabrina Carpenter and others tied at six. Big general-field categories include Song of the Year (also with big names), Record of the Year (Bad Bunny's 'DtMF,' Lady Gaga's 'Abracadabra,' Lamar & SZA's 'Luther,' Carpenter's 'Manchild'), and Album of the Year with nominees like Bad Bunny's 'Debí Tirar Más Fotos,' Lady Gaga's 'Mayhem,' Kendrick Lamar's 'GNX,' and Sabrina Carpenter's 'Man's Best Friend.'

Among first‑time or breakout mentions: artists such as Doechii and K‑pop‑linked group HUNTR/X (with 'Golden') have got nods in major fields, highlighting the growing representation of various genres. This year, the Grammys have introduced two new categories: Best Album Cover and Best Traditional Country Album; the previously titled Best Country Album category has been changed to Best Contemporary Country Album.

In context of adding categories, Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. recently told Grammy.com, that "I'm thrilled that many of this year's changes…allow us to honour even more creators. That's always a positive outcome for me. But even more importantly, these are much-needed updates that ensure those who are making significant contributions to the musical process are properly recognized and have the opportunity to be celebrated on Music's Biggest Night."

Looking Back, Eligibility & What's Ahead

The 2026 nominations follow last year's 2025 Grammy cycle, where many of these artists had been contenders or winners, but this time the stakes feel higher with crossover success and genre mixing. Sabrina Carpenter, for instance, was nominated before and is currently included in all three major categories (Album, Song, and Record). Lady Gaga and Kendrick Lamar have likewise stepped into serious contention for Album of the Year for the first time with those particular works.

Since the eligibility window ended on 30th August, 2025, some releases, including Taylor Swift's 'The Life of a Showgirl,' were not eligible for the latest nominations. Voting for final winners kicks off from 12th December, 2025 and runs through 5th January, 2026. All eyes now turn to the main ceremony in Los Angeles to see whether the nominations translate into wins, whether first‑timers break through, and whether big names convert their many nods into trophies. 

The 2026 Grammys are expected to be a landmark event in musical inclusivity and artistry because of the wide range of genres represented, including pop, rap, Latin, K-pop, and more.

Brazilian police have announced that they successfully foiled an attempted bomb attack targeting Lady Gaga’s massive concert at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro. The show, titled ‘Mayhem On The Beach’, marked the biggest performance of Gaga’s career and her first in Brazil since 2012. Held on 3^rd May, the event drew an estimated 2.5 million attendees, gathering near the iconic Belmond Copacabana Palace Hotel.

According to a statement released on Sunday by the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro State, working alongside the Justice Ministry, two individuals were arrested for allegedly planning co-ordinated attacks using improvised explosives and Molotov cocktails. The suspects, who reportedly tried to recruit others—including minors—for the plot, were tracked as part of an investigation that extended across multiple states including Rio de Janeiro, Mato Grosso, Rio Grande do Sul, and São Paulo. One of the arrests took place in Rio Grande do Sul for illegal firearm possession.

The investigation, dubbed ‘Operation Fake Monster’, stemmed from a tip provided by Rio’s state police intelligence. Authorities uncovered an online network that promoted violent extremism among teens through coded language and symbolic imagery. Alarmingly, the individuals behind the plot identified themselves as ‘Little Monsters’, a term widely used to describe Lady Gaga’s global fanbase.

Despite the security threat, the concert proceeded without incident. Gaga performed on a custom-built stage designed to reflect her artistic vision, delivering a career-spanning set that, according to BBC News, brought an estimated $100 million (£75 million) boost to the local economy.

Gaga was spotted in Paris rehearsing earlier this week, sparking speculation about her involvement in the ceremony. According to Uproxx, rumours started on 11th July when social media noticed that Thomas Jolly, the artistic director for the 2024 Summer Games' opening and closing ceremonies, recently followed Gaga on Instagram.

The artist delivered Zizi Jeanmaire’s French cabaret classic (translated as ‘My thing with feathers’) on steps by the river Seine, accompanied by eight dancers with pink feather fans. She then transitioned to the piano for the latter half of the song.

Gaga, whose mother is half-French, has mentioned growing more confident in speaking and singing French with practice.

This opening ceremony is historic as the first to be held outside a stadium, featuring athletes parading down the Seine on 85 boats over a four-mile route.

At the Merkur Spiel-Arena in Düsseldorf, Germany, Lady Gaga debuted her new stage show to nearly 54,000 fans as part of the formal opening of ‘The Chromatica Ball’ on 17^th July. She also gave the first live performance of her 2009 hit song ‘Monster’ in eight years.

It follows a long series of postponements that were put on the tour, which was originally scheduled to begin in 2020 before being delayed to last July and then again to this month. Back in March, the final schedule was set.

At the first ‘Chromatica Ball’ concert, Gaga performed 20 songs, nine of which were from the album it was supporting (which landed back in May of 2020). In addition to the hits ‘Stupid Love,’ ‘Rain On Me’ and ‘911,’ Gaga made her live debut with ‘Alice,’ ‘Replay,’ ‘Sour Candy,’ ‘Babylon,’ ‘Free Woman’ and ‘Enigma.’

According to setlist.fm, the latter two songs had prolonged outros, while '911' had an extended intro and both 'Babylon' and 'Stupid Love' had various extensions.

Following director Todd Phillips' announcement earlier this month that a sequel to the 2019 film is in the works, it's been reported that Lady Gaga is in talks to play Harley Quinn alongside Joaquin Phoenix.

Phillips announced 'Joker: Folie à Deux' last week by revealing the cover of the script, which he and his Joker co-writer Scott Silver wrote. He also tweeted a photo of Phoenix reading the script, implying that the actor will reprise his Oscar-winning performance as the titular character.

According to reports, the planned sequel will be a musical, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Phoenix's involvement is also said to be a work in progress, with the actor and Warner still in talks. Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, is in early talks to play Quinn, the Joker's Arkham Asylum psychiatrist who falls in love with him, helps him escape, and eventually becomes his sidekick and romantic companion.

Their connection has been depicted on-screen before – Margot Robbie played Quinn in Suicide Squad in 2016, Birds of Prey in 2020, and The Suicide Squad in 2021 – but Folie à Deux would be the first time the character appears in Phillips' Joker universe.
