Good news for all the 'Game of Thrones' fans. After a Thrones-free 2025, the network has now greenlit 'House of the Dragon' season 4 and 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' season 2. The announcement was made during an HBO press presentation in New York City, solidifying a multi-year slate of medieval fantasy storytelling.

Although season 4 of 'House of the Dragon' has been ordered, HBO has not designated it as the show's final chapter. Showrunner Ryan Condal has previously shared that he envisioned a four-season arc to fully depict the brutal Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. Following the renewal news, HBO CEO Casey Bloys said that the network typically allows creators to determine when a series should end and confirmed that there are no updates yet on whether 'House of the Dragon' will conclude after season 4.

'House of the Dragon' is Not Ending Soon

HBO also announced that 'House of the Dragon' season 3 will debut next summer, continuing the fiery conflict between rival Targaryen factions.

Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming and head of Drama Series and Films, said the network is excited to deliver new seasons of both shows for the next three years. She emphasised that, together, these series demonstrate the vast scale and depth of George R. R. Martin's world.

'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Future

'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,' based on Martin's beloved 'Dunk and Egg' novellas, will premiere on 18th January. Orsi described the series as an inspiring underdog story and teased that House of the Dragon's third season will feature some of its most massive and intense battles yet.

Set decades after 'House of the Dragon' and roughly fifty years after the death of the last dragon in Westeros, 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' follows Dunk, played by Peter Claffey, a squire to a fallen hedge knight. Seeking to earn money, he decides to enter a local tournament using his late master’s armour. Along the way, he meets a determined bald young boy known as Egg, who volunteers to serve as his new squire.

Ira Parker serves as showrunner and co-creator of the new series. Season 1 adapts Martin's novella 'The Hedge Knight,' while the newly confirmed season 2 will bring 'The Sworn Sword' to life.

Meanwhile, Condal has teased that 'House of the Dragon' season 3 is the most ambitious instalment yet. He noted that fans waiting for the savage and merciless violence that defines the Dance of the Dragons will see it delivered in abundance.

HBO's Other Renewals

The press event also confirmed additional HBO renewals for 2026, including a second season of Mark Ruffalo's crime drama 'Task,' along with new seasons of comedies 'The Chair Company' and 'I Love LA.'

Additionally, Genndy Tartakovsky's acclaimed adult animated series 'Primal' will return for season 3 on 11th January 2026.

During the panel, Martin reflected on how his success from 'Game of Thrones' has reignited industry interest in many of his earlier works. An Impromptu Wedding

The two had planned for a destination wedding at France but due to legal reasons, they had to register their marriage in the United States first. When presented with the options of either doing it quietly at a courthouse or going for a full-on ceremony, they decided on the latter and took off to a chapel in Las Vegas right after attending the Billboards Music Awards that year. Ahh, an impromptu wedding at Sin City. Gives us Friends memories doesn’t it?

Some news about Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner's marriage just came our way, and it is absolutely hilarious. Joe revealed that he had been given an ultimatum by Sophie right before getting married. So much so that the wedding was conditional on it.

Jonas appeared on ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden' this week and gave a tell-all to his fans in this lockdown.

Because every Christmas, for those of you that are watching that don't know, every Christmas in the UK they just stream and play 'Harry Potter', all of them.''

And well, considering that they're married now, says that the man paid the ultimate price. Boys, you listening? 

Additionally, he said, ''We've done three Lord of the Rings Legos, we've done Hogwarts, the castle, which is like 7,000 pieces, the Batmobile, and 'Stranger Things'. So we're running out of options at this point.''

HBO has confirmed the prequel to the nail-biting fantasy drama, 'Game of Thrones', and fans are eagerly waiting for the events to unfold.

HBO announced that the series will be based off of George R.R Martin’s ‘Fire and Blood’ and is set to be a 10 episode spinoff of the original series. This plot will be taking place 300 years before the main events of ‘The Game Of Thrones’ and will focus on the story behind the House of Targaryen.

Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal will partner as showrunners, according to the premium cable channel. "The 'Game of Thrones' universe is so rich with stories," said Casey Bloys, president of HBO programming. "We look forward to exploring the origins of House Targaryen and the earlier days of Westeros along with Miguel, Ryan and George."  

The project will mark HBO's first official follow-up to "Game of Thrones," which won best drama series at the Emmys back in September.

Coldplay made their comeback last week with the release of thier two new tracks called, ‘Orphans’ and ‘Arabesque’, both of which will feature on their double record "Everyday Life". According to Martin, “The new album is very sexy, it’s all about partying.”

When asked about the unique methods adopted by the band to promote the album, which saw them announce the tracklist LP, to which Martin responded: “Terrible.”

Explaining the thought process behind the campaign, he said: “We’re trying not to do anything that doesn’t seem like a good idea. And one of us said, ‘Hey, let’s announce things by writing a letter to the people and putting it in a newspaper’. The rest of us said, ‘Yeah, that’s a good idea!’

“It’s very Game of Thrones, and also I think the music we’re making right now is very earthy and there’s not much glamour to it. It’s very raw and that just felt like the nicest way of telling people.”

This insight comes after Coldplay shared their official video of the song 'Orphan', which arrived online last week. The visuals see Martin and co. perform in a rotating room whilst backed by colourful imagery.

The Game of Thrones cast reunion had many people close to tears, especially this very pure moment, when Kit Harington and Sophie Turner hugged it out. The GoT co-stars, who play half-siblings-turned-cousins, Jon Snow and Sansa Stark, had a sweet exchange during the ceremony at L.A.'s Microsoft Theater. Amidst the chaos, the two actors found each other in the venue and shared an endearing hug, which almost paralleled all those family reunions that happened in the show!

The ‘Game of Thrones’ cast reunited one last time for the Emmy’s, the cast received a standing ovation when they walked out together and it was just heartbreaking to watch – for both the cast and the fans. Peter Dinklage went on to win Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and the show also won in the Outstanding Drama Series category. It’s the only show to be nominated in every single category this year. While the fans are still in two minds about the series finale, a new year without the show might just be a tad bit more painful.
