The 'Elvis' biopic starring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks may be arriving sooner than we thought.

The film, titled 'Elvis', is a biopic about the legendary rock star's life, focusing on his road to stardom and his infamous relationship with manager Colonel Parker.

While Butler (known for his role in 'Once Upon A Time in Hollywood') will play Elvis himself, Tom Hanks takes on the role of the notorious Colonel Parker, Presley's manager. The film will be directed by Australian heavyweight, director Baz Luhrmann ('The Great Gatsby', 'Romeo and Juliet'). 

Shooting for 'Elvis' was called to a halt when cast member Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson tested positive for coronavirus back in March. The location for shooting and production continues to be the Gold Coast.

In a statement regarding the halt in production, Luhrmann said: "We have a passionate conviction to be back here on the Gold Coast, picking up where we left off as soon as the time is right. In fact, we are not even taking our sets down, simply locking up the creative space over the next few days."

'Elvis' will also star Olivia DeJonge, Maggie Gyllenhall and Rufus Sewell in key roles. Detailing one of the darkest sides of his personal life, the film will dive deep into a side of his personal life still shrouded in mystery, as well as hint at the 'Memphis Mafia'. 

With regards to the safety measures being carried out on site, Labour Party member, Annastacia Palaszczuk said: "We want to ensure that this can happen as soon as possible while making sure that the cast and crew can operate safely."

She further added, "Screen Queensland and Queensland Health are also currently developing a screen industry Covid safe plan that will be released shortly, paving the way for the whole sector to get rolling cameras again and crew back to work on sets."
